About Us
I would like to first and foremost thank everyone for your support throughout the years. It has been an unpredictable year thus far in 2009 with some great parties and some incredible times. I am writing this “about page” for all of you who do not really know me and want to know why I have decided to start SonnyDC.com.
My name is Sonny Tran a.k.a. Ghost. I am one of the founding members of the D.C. based breakdance crew the Lionz of Zion and have been breakdancing since 1993. I have been active in the competitive arena of b-boying, traveling to cities all over the United States, Europe, and Asia, winning numerous competitions throughout the world. Dancing in nightclubs years before starting my breakdancing career, I’ve learned capoiera, house, freestyle, popping and locking. Prior to studying or practicing any traditional dance discipline, I’ve studied and attained a third degree black belt in Karate, American kickboxing, and Tae Kwon Do. I graduated from George Mason University with a BA in psychology. I have also established an extensive background that spans modern, jazz, tap, African and Asian dance.
As a dancer, I’ve performed with and choreographed for such dance companies as Rennie Harris “Pure Movement,” Clyde Evans “Chosen,” Kamila Forbes “A Rhyme Deferred,” and the Culture Shock Dance Troupe. I’ve opened for such hip hop artists as Black Eyed Peas, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, the Neptunes, Wu Tang Clan and Run DMC, among others. I’ve also been featured on BET”s “Rap City” b-boying documentary, appeared in “The Freshest Kids” the first professional hip hop documentary on the history of b-boying, and have found a place in the first hip hop museum in Brooklyn, New York.
I have been involved with numerous tours to include the And 1 Mixed Tape Tour, the Warp Tour, the KOOL REC Room Indy Car Racing Promotional Tour and the Sprite Remix Tour. My work as a performer has also taken me to the Rock Steady Crew Anniversaries, the Washington Wizards MCI Center, X-Games and Gravity Games. I have taught classes, lectures and workshops at a variety of universities, dance schools and communities all across the country and Europe. My dedication has distinctly influenced the next generation of dancers with a mix of innovative style, character and originality.
Currently I am turning over a new leaf and converting AllOutParty.com LLC to SonnyDC. I’ve thrown numerous parties throughout the Washington DC area working with venues /clubs all over the city. I still dance, compete, perform, and choreograph but have found a new hidden talent that I never knew about which is bringing people together. I love throwing parties that consist of a diverse crowd, hot music, and positive energy. It’s the best feeling to see everyone just chilling out and having a great time.
I started SonnyDC because this is who I am. I love going to new places, meeting interesting people, listening to great music, and dancing the night away. SonnyDC is all about having the best time possible by living life to the fullest. Life is too short, so let’s celebrate every chance we can.
Sonny C. Tran
